Who Are We?

We are a solo medical practice, specializing in pediatrics. We take care of patients from birth to age 22 - or as long as the patient is in school. We are a general pediatric office, taking care of routine medical problems. The office handles both well visits and sick visits for infants, children, adolescents and young adults.

The practice accepts a wide variety of insurances and participates in NJ Kidcare with AmeriChoice and Medicaid. Please call the office during business hours to see if we accept your insurance. The office works by appointment only – we do not generally take walk in patients, except in an emergency. Sick visits are usually scheduled the day the office is called. Well care visits are generally made within 7 business days, although the time is usually much less than that. Payment is expected at the time of the visit. If you have insurance, we will accept your co-payment at the time of the visit. If the insurance does not pay, then you will be responsible for the balance and will be billed. We now accept credit cards online for your convienience.

About the Practice

The practice is owned and run by Edward A. Sciano, Jr., M.D. The pediatric office was opened at this location in 1986. Dr. Sciano joined his father in this office, who had been doing general practice since the early 1950's. After Dr. Sciano, Sr.'s death in 1989, Dr. Sciano, Jr. continued to run the office as a pediatric speciaist. The office is still run as a solo practice, and tries to maintain a family friendly environment. Patients are scheduled and seen in a manner that allows maximum time with the patient, so the doctor can get to know the patient. Developing a rapport with the patient is a key element of proper treatment. No one is treated as a number and no one is rushed thru their visit. Dr. Sciano feels it is important to take care of the patient as a person, not as an object.

About Dr. Sciano

Dr. Sciano, Jr. was born in Paterson, NJ in 1952. He was raised locally, living first in Elmwood Park, then in Fair Lawn. He attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. After graduating medical school, he did his Fifth Pathway internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ. He then attended the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio, where he completed a 3 year residency program in pediatrics. After his residency, Dr. Sciano joined a large medical group in Southboro, Ma. After a year, he decided that things were too rushed and impersonal. He left the practice to return home to join his father in a more patient oriented environment.
